What Does A/C Servicing Involve?

First, it’s important to note that when we say “servicing”, we mean “re-gassing”.

  • Re-gassing involves the evacuation of the refrigerant gas and all oxygen and moisture from the A/C unit.
  • The system is then checked for leaks, often with a fluorescent dye that glows under a UV light. This helps to spot leaks more easily.
  • Individual components are inspected for damage, including hoses, seals and compressors. If a component is found to be damaged, it is replaced.
  • Following this, a lubricating oil is circulated through the system to lubricate any metal moving parts.
  • The unit is refilled with refrigerant to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • The A/C is tested to make sure it runs efficiently and cools correctly.

How To Maintain Your Car’s Air Conditioner

  • Run the A/C at least once a week to maintain the refrigerant gas pressure and keep it ready year-round, no matter the weather. 
  • Always keep your windows closed when the A/C is on. Having the windows open means all the cool air created by the aircon is being lost and therefore the fuel needed to power the unit is being wasted. 
  • Have your system professionally serviced at least every two years. Visiting a licensed professional not only protects your car but also your health and that of your passengers.
